Botox® Injectable
Facial Rejuvenation
Dr. Huelsman is one of a growing number of dentists who are trained to administer Botox. Known for both its aesthetic and therapeutic uses, Botox is injected into the facial muscles. The protein contained in Botox blocks the transmitters between the motor nerves within the muscle. With the motor nerves inactive, the muscle can no longer contract, meaning the continual motion of the muscles are barred. Once the motion is controlled, wrinkles are less likely to form. On the clinical side, less movement results in less pain.
Once Botox is administered, the skin starts to become smoother. Approximately three to ten days after treatment, the skin above those muscles reaches its full potential. The effects of Botox last for approximately three to four months, at which time the patient is eligible for another treatment. With millions of injections delivered every single year, Botox is heralded as very safe, yielding minor adverse reactions.
Botox is most often used in the regions around the forehead, between the eyes, the corners of the eyes and around the lips. It reduces forehead lines, laugh lines, and other facial wrinkles.
As far as dentistry is concerned, Botox has an important role in treating TMJ (temporomandibular jar disorders) and teeth grinding. TMJ can cause significant pain and discomfort. It can cause sleepless nights and horrible headaches. When you receive botox for TMJ, it releases jaw tension and can even minimize lock jaw.
In addition, Botox can be used in denture patients who have trouble adjusting to new dentures, lip augmentation cases and in patients whose orthodontic treatment has caused necessary retraining of facial muscles. Now you don’t have to worry about finding a reputable practice to receive Botox. Dr. Huelsman is excited to be able to offer you this service in the comfort of a familiar place — his dental office.
